Crafting Dragon and Unicorn heads is a journey that blends tradition, symbolism, and artistry. Each piece is made entirely by hand, from cutting and bending the bamboo frame to layering paper, sculpting details, and applying paint with great care.
Unlike lions, dragons embody cosmic power, prosperity, and vitality, while Unicorns (Qilin) are revered as guardians of purity, fortune, and protection, central figures in Southern Chinese celebrations.
Every head is created on commission, designed to reflect both ancestral meaning and the vision of the client. Once painted, I add the traditional finishes, fur, horsehair, ornaments, and other details, that give life and spirit to the work.
These creations can stand as unique art pieces, displayed with or without internal lighting, or serve their full purpose on stage, carried in processions and dances. I can deliver them with or without body sections, and also perform the awakening ritual “Eye Dotting Ceremony” (開光 / awakening) in my workshop or directly for the troupe.

Crafting – Handmade from frame to final ornament, with every detail carefully shaped and painted.
Completion & Delivery – Finished with fur, horsehair, and ornaments, ready to display, perform, or be awakened through the Eye Dotting Ceremony if requested.
